John L. Grady, M.D.

John L. Grady, M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. After graduation in 1965, Dr. Grady enlisted in the United States Navy where he remained in active service until 1985. During that time, he also received his Medical Doctorate from Temple University in Philadelphia, Penn., in 1973. Dr. Grady, formerly chairman of the department of ophthalmology at the Charleston Naval Hospital founded Mt. Pleasant Ophthalmology 27 years ago. This is the longest established full time comprehensive ophthalmology practice east of the Cooper. Dr. Grady's reputation for excellent and personal care is well established.

His work experience includes the following:

  • 1973-1974 - Internship National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.
  • 1974-1977 - Resident National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.
  • 1977-1985 - Chief, Naval Regional Medical Center, Dept. of Ophthalmology Charleston, S.C.
  • 1978-1988 - Clinical Instructor Ophthalmology MUSC
  • 1983 - Director Navy Resident Training, Cairo, Egypt
  • 1996-1999 - Chief of Surgery, East Cooper Regional Medical Center

Additionally, Dr. Grady holds a specialty certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Charleston County Medical Society and South Carolina Medical Association.
